Welcome recreation enthusiasts to the Central Adirondack region.

Mouse-over Display

Hover your cursor over a dark red triangle in the map, and all the information for that business will display, including website link.

Turn on the campgrounds (button above the map in Recreation Activities) and hover over a tent in the map, the DEC website link will pop up.

Turn on hiking or biking trails, canoe/kayak waterways or motorcycle riding loops, and hover over the corresponding colored trail or waterway. Helpful information will display, including the link to the PDF document with much more detail.

Displaying Trail Information

 

Several dozen featured hikes and mountain/road biking rides have been included throughout the region, along with numerous other trail segments. All featured hikes and rides have a .pdf document associated with them to print out that contains information such as:
* trail map and elevation profile
* trailhead and/or parking information
* length and difficulty of outing
* description of the terrain or highlights of what you will see

To access the .pdf documents, you will need to have Adobe Reader installed on your computer.

Click on the PDF button above the map, then click on a trail segment to open a .pdf document.

OR, you can use one of the searches to the right of the map. If you search by name, the .pdf document will automatically open up for you.

Displaying Waterways Information
Several featured canoeing and kayaking waterways have been included throughout the region also. All waterways have a .pdf document associated with them to print out that contains information such as:
* put ins and take outs, along with portage information
* parking information
* length and difficulty of outing
* description of the water bodies or highlights of what you will see

To access the .pdf documents, you will need to have Adobe Reader installed on your computer.

Click on the PDF button above the map, then click on a waterways segment to open a .pdf document.

OR, you can use one of the searches to the right of the map. If you search by name, the .pdf document will automatically open up for you.
Quick Zooms (bottom right corner of screen, above motorcyclists)
You can zoom directly to one of the towns or hamlets in the map by clicking on the double headed arrow. Then just click your choice from the list. Clicking on "Startup" will zoom back to the whole region (or the startup view).
Using the Information Button
Click on the information button above the map, then click on something in the map. The object you clicked on will highlight in red and a box will pop up with descriptive information. If you have trouble precisely clicking on an object, zoom in until it becomes easier.

To close the pop up box, just click the X in the top right corner. You can make the pop up box bigger if you want.

To clear the red highlighted selection, click on the X button above the map. (It's before the ruler and printer buttons)
